HELLO!  I'm Rose and I'm having my wedding this year at the Admiral Kidd Club on Sept 3.  I'll be having both the ceremony on the lawn and reception up at the Skyline room.  So far planning is going okay.  I'm trying to book as many vendors as possible right now because my baby & I will moving to TX to see & meet my husband who's been deployed to Iraq for the past 7 months.  We were civilly married last year (010304) and we're having our formal wedding this year.  It'll be a combination of military & filipino traditions.  I'm really looking forward to the big day & I absolutely cannot get enough of this site.  Thanks for all the reviews and input on everything!  I guess that's it for now...

Welcome, rosesarered! And my thoughts (and thanks!) are with you/to your hubby in Iraq. My cousin is over there also, so I think about our guys and gals over there a lot lately. If you ever want to vent or just chat about that even tho it's non-wedding related, we have a NWR (that stands for both "non-wedding related" or "newlyweds return"),  side of the board also (and some threads started up already in the family sections about that topic, too). Just check the pink bar above for it, and maybe we'll see ya over there also!

Good luck planning your big wedding event! :-)

Hey ladies, I'm Christine. I'm another 2006 bride. I'm not exactly new to the board though.  I've been reading all your great ideas for months!

We're getting married April 15, 2006 at the La Jolla Bridge Club. We plan to have the ceremony and reception on site. I love the Club but I'm a little nervous about doing everything myself Confused. The cove was the first place my fiance took me when we moved out here. I instantly fell in love with San Diego! Most of our friends and family still live back East so we expect a guest list full of out of towners.

I look forward to all the planning and want to thank everyone in advance for all the help and support. You girls are great!

Hi Ladies,

My name is Jennifer, and our big day is May 28, 2005.  I'm planning the wedding from the Bay Area, so it's been a challenge.  I had no idea how incredibly time consuming all of this would be, but it's well worth it.

A friend told me about this site, and I've been reading threads on here well before I finally signed in.  You didn't know it, but you were all a big help in choosing some of my vendors, and I've definitely searched for creative ideas on this board.  Thanks!

Now it's just a little under four months and counting ...

Hello all!  My name is Abby and our wedding day is still TBD, but we're thinking mid-late spring 2006.  You ladies have been so, so helpful already.  I'm getting many great suggestions for the all-important decision of ceremony/reception location.  I'm also originally an east coast gal, so coordinating with all the family and friends is taking extra time.  Again, ladies, I'm thrilled I found this board - thank you!

Hello ladies,

My name is Courtney and my fiance and I are currently living in
Columbus, OH. We're both from CA (I'm from the Bay Area, he's from LA)
and we met at UCSD so we want to go back where it all began. He's in a
Masters program at Ohio State-- no way would I choose this snowy
weather for no good reason!

We want to get married this fall in SD (plan on a visit in a couple weeks)
for 150 people on a $15,000 budget. Yup, we're optomistic (see my user
name!) but I truly think it can be done. We want an informal day wedding
outside, followed by a FUN reception. I know planning from a distance is
going to be a bear, so we're thinking it's worthwhile to hire a coordinator
to help us along. We'll see-- we may push the day back if we need to.
Until then, we're hoping this fall will work.

Btw, this site has been awesome! You gals are so great at sharing what
you know; I know it takes time to post, especially those wedding reports!!
Some of us think they're super helpful, thank you, thank you!

Hi Courtney, and welcome! You can definately have the wedding of your dreams on that budget. There are a ton of great resources on this board. There is also a thread called "Post Your Vendors" that is just awesome, there is so much info on that.

Good luck and happy planning!

Oh a 15,000 wedding for 150 guests can totally be done!!!

That was my original budget and I cut it down (along with my guest list) to 10,000 for 100 guests.  I am doing it with a little help from my friends on the internet and this board!

Hello, everyone.!  We are getting married May 28, 2005 at the Prado.  We are planning a small wedding, almost everyone is from New England, hoping for about 80 people.  I've been reading BI for several months but just started posting. You girls are very supportive and great. Had a minor freak out today when I realized my wedding is under four months away and still haven't recovered.  I'm still kind of terrified as I type this.  This board has been great though, I found several of my vendors from it and have learned tons.  Max is my dog. FI always tries to tell me Max loves him more, but clearly, Max loves me.

Hi Ladies!

I've been reading posts on here for a while now, but I registered to BI just now!  We're planning on getting married in Summer 2006 somewhere along the water with 100-150 ppl for about $15K... that's the farthest we've gotten with wedding planning so far!  lol  We're in Tucson right now and moving to Denver in May, so we'll be hiring a wedding coordinator (although I've gotten some GREAT vendor ideas from you all and sometimes wonder if I really need a coordinator... I know I will), but I REALLY want to get married in SD- you can't beat the gorgeous views!

We'll be married at the end of March in a small private ceremeony and then have a big beach party in September. Lucky me, I get to plan 2 events, not just one !

Thanks...

I could use a little direction on a couple of things. Everything is taken care of for the private ceremony 'reception' (we're taking everyone to our favorite restaurant in the Gaslamp), except for the cake. Well, I guess I sould say cake topper. I'd like to get one that shows an enlisted Marine and bride (with brown hair), if one exists.  I've got questions about caterers for the Spet reception, but I'll take those to that section.

Well I joined a couple of months ago but I'm still a newbie, right?   My wedding date is November 12, 2005.  The reception is at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach, and we're still deciding on the church - either St. James in Solana Beach or Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.  My fiance and I currently live in Jacksonville, Florida but we can't wait to move back to California and settle down in the San Diego area.  From time to time I get totally overwhelmed thinking about planning the wedding from across the country, but this board has been so awesome for recommendations of vendors, warnings, advice, etc.  Plus my parents, who live in Oceanside, have been really great about scoping out venues and everything else for me.

So, the reception venue is the only thing I have nailed down at this point!  Yikes!  I need to get to work.  Thanks to everyone for all the great advice.

p.s. My name is Anne-Marie, and I'm a total goofball - when I was registering for the board I wasn't paying attention I guess, because when I entered 'wendy' I thought I entered it in as a password (its my mom's name, easy to remember), but now I have it as my username.  Oh well :)

Mercy,

You could get this one at the site where Smoochie sent us (it's blonde but bear with me).

http://www.topsthecake.com/489.jpg - http://www.topsthecake.com/489.jpg

Back in the 70s when my mom graduated nursing school they gave all the graduates a little porcelain nurse figurine. Cute, but, it was blonde and mom had dark brown/black hair. So I whipped out a paintbrush, watered down some acrylic paint in Burnt Umber (I had it; I took art lessons as a kid), and changed the haircolor.

Back to work,

Denise

Hi!

I'm Christine! I'm getting married on Fourth of July weekend at the Naval Base in Coronado/Island Club! Yay! I'm marrying a Marine and I can't wait. His name is Scott and he's from Houston. I'm from Santa Cruz (northern Cal/Bay Area).

I teach computers at an elementary school and it's so fun! It has been so great reading about everyone's similar endeavors! Planning is going well, just nonstop! I'm just about ready to order my dress, flowers, and cake! Have mostly everything else done. My bridesmaids are all wearing black summer dresses, all their own style that they've picked out. I think they're gonna look amazing with all of our groomsmen in their dress blues!

Not sure what else to share! Happy to join the club...:)

Hi everyone!  I'm Janet and just found this board yesterday.  It has seriously consumed much of time since then:)  FI and I met four years ago online, I moved to San Diego and the rest is history.  We were engaged in November and are just beginning to plan our wedding.  I'm so excited I found this wonderful resource!

Hello,

I have been watching the BI posts for some time now.  I am near the end of my planning as the big day is April 9, 2005.  We are now dealing with the details we have been putting off for so long.  Reading the vendor reports has been a big influence on our planning.  Thanks to those girls who took the time to write such detailed reports!

Hello Ladies,

I'm Audrey, I'm 30, this is my first marriage, and I love San Diego!

I have been putting off posting an introduction because I am not officially engaged yet. Its a bit of a long story but the synopsis is:

We've been dating for 8 1/2 years, we moved in together 5 years ago when we moved to San Diego from NJ so that I could get my Ph.D. in chemistry. Of course I thought once we moved in together, we would get married, but that was not his plan. All of the sudden, in September, he started talking about how we needed to get married. He has a fab heirloom ring from his great great great aunt (which he's been hiding from me for years) and wants to marry at my parents' house in NJ. I was completely shocked, and am in the middle of tyring to finish my work, write my dissertation, and find a job, so its not exactly a convenient time for me to start planning a wedding. I told him no way, not now, don't even ask because I need to focus on my work.

That said, every morning I read this board and look at wedding stuff, so I guess we are getting engaged soon because I am already not focussing on work and we may as well make it official. He already asked people to be his attendants and has picked a date - June 24, 2006, on the water, in a tent, at my parents' house in NJ.

I can tell already that its not going to be easy to plan a wedding from the other side of the country. I wish we could get married here, but both of our families are in NJ and its just so much easier on our guests.

I love this board and I think that all of you are super creative and resourceful. Thank for posting all of your fab ideas and for your up-beat, fun posts.

Audrey

Hi Everyone.Tongue

I'm Stephanie.  I've been lurking here for months.  They are so addicting!!!  I finally just posted something tonight.  These boards have been such a great help to me.  I've worked weddings for years, but it's different when your planning your own.......on a budget!!!!  I love reading the vendor reports.  They've really helped me with ideas.   My Fi & I both work for Hornblower Cruises which leases the Abbey in Banker's Hill.  But, neither one of us could have our wedding in a place that we work.  So that's why we choose different locatons for our wedding.

We're excited and stressing about our day but, isn't everybody!!!

Thanks to everyone for all the help you've given me so far.

Hi all,
I've been reading all the postings on this site for a month now and just
found the new member thread. We haven't decided on a date yet, but are
hoping to get married later this year - we are hoping that since we prefer
to have the wedding on a Friday or Sunday, that we won't have too much
trouble booking! Anyway, since most of the guests will be out of towners
(and we're planning this from the Bay Area), we're looking for a unique
place that will represent San Diego, so we're going to check out the MoPA
and the Prado @ Balboa Park, though with ~140 people, it is a little
pricey! I emailed the San Diego Society Historical Museum twice but
never got a reply. Anyway, I really appreciate all the postings, it's really
helpful!

Hello all!  I am new at this and have gotten so much information!  I love talking to other ladies who are in the same boat.

Marc and I are getting married September 17, 2005, at the La Jolla Woman's Club .  The reception will be held there as well.

Some of the planning has been done.  My dress is ordered, bridesmaid dresses are in the works, favors are bought, caterer is being decided.  Not sure on the cake bakery and florist.

I started a binder the day after we got engaged, so hopefully everything will be a smooth sailing!

All input is very much appreciated and I can't wait to get to know everyone on here.  I would love to attend the GTG's.

Please contact me to chat and to share ideas.

Thanks,

Allison

Hello ladies!

We are getting married Oct. 9, 2005 at the Bali Hai. I found this site from a random google search and I LOVE IT. I've been procrastinating planning our wedding for about 9 months now because I am lazy. hahha Well really we have been saving money but I guess I could have been planning all this time. I've set the date and started excercising to fit into a killer dress, other than that, I need to do everything else. Everyone's advice is welcome, especially Bali Hai brides.

Hi everyone, so I have been putting off posting a hello. I am not getting married in SD, but decided to have a small wedding in Maui. I live in SD and just moved here 2yrs ago to be with my FI, who has been here since college, we went to high school together and 11years later decide to date. We did the long distance thing for 3yrs (between SD and Ventura Co. 3 hour drive).

I really love looking at all of your great ideas, they are very helpful. Reading this board has really helped me with my small details and big ones too.

Hello! I'm Jan and I'm getting married on 10/16/05 at La Valencia. I have
really appreciated all of the advice, comments, etc. on this site--I'm fairly
new to San Diego and this has been a huge help. (Thank you to everyone
for your contributions!)

The planning is going pretty well--we have the officiant, venue, dress,
Save-the-dates, and day-of coordinator. Now we just need to do the
photographer, florist, bridesmaid dresses, invitations, etc.... starting to
get a little weary... : )

Hi, I'm Caroline, and I just got engaged last Valentine's Day.    My fiance and I are planning on getting married on April 8, 2006.  We've been dating for almost 3 years, and living together for a little over a year, and I'm so excited I can barely take it!!!!

We're going to get married in my home state of Louisiana.  His family is all from southern California, so it will be an interesting mix of SoCal/Cajun.

How did I miss this? It's pretty clear I have something to say about everything.... Hello and WELCOME! It's an addiction, but a HEALTHY onel The best thing aobut this board is that you have a captive audence of people who WANT to talk about weddings. That, for me, was the best part of the whole process.

Good luck and come to the NWR side when the planning gets to be to much. We're a funny bunch.

Hi everyone-
I stumbled onto this sight a few weeks ago and have been slowly getting addicted!
My name is Katie, and I got engaged New Year's Eve (we were snowshoeing in Sequoia National Park- it was a total suprise!) , and I've been in super-excited-planning-mode ever since.
Right now I'm living in Northern California, but I grew up in SD and my fiance grew up in Big Bear.  We decided that most of our guests (especially those from the Midwest and the East Coast) would prefer coming to San Diego over Sacramento. =P  I've already flown down to look at a few sites, and I think we're looking at a mid-July 2006 wedding.
This website has been amazing.  Thanks so much for all of the great ideas everyone!
Katie

We have the reception site: the bali hai but thats all. wedding with just our parent and siblings. Now we are going to have a
full on big filipino wedding (400 guests). I'm so excited. We already have
a son who is 20 months and we're debating if he should be in the
wedding or not. Glad to be part of this group!
